Former Chief Justice Md Ruhul Amin has passed away at the age of 83.

He breathed his last around 4:00 am on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in the capital.

The Supreme Court administration confirmed his death.

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed expressed deep shock and condolences over his passing.

In accordance with the traditions of the Supreme Court (SC), judicial activities in both divisions will remain suspended today. However, all administrative functions of the SC Registry will continue as usual, said the court’s Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam.

Ruhul Amin was born on June 1, 1941, in Lakshmipur district. He became the 15th Chief Justice of Bangladesh on March 1, 2007, and retired on May 31, 2008.
