Deaths of 3 IUT students: 7 rural electrification officials suspended
Seven officials and employees of Mymensingh Rural Electrification Association-2 have been temporarily suspended following the electrocution deaths of three students from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) in a picnic bus incident in Gazipur.
Md Akmal Hossain, General Manager of Mymensingh Rural Electrification Association-2, confirmed the suspensions at 11:30 pm on Saturday (November 23).
He stated that three students were electrocuted and died on Saturday morning when their picnic bus came into contact with a live electric wire in Gazipur. Immediately after the incident, senior officials from the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board visited the site.
Later that night, the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board temporarily suspended Deputy General Manager (DGM, Technical) Kamalesh Chandra Barman, Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Maona Zonal Office Khondkar Mahmudul Hasan, Assistant General Manager (AGM) Md Tanveer Salauddin, Junior Engineer Matiur Rahman, linemen Parvez Mia, Shakhawat Hossain, and Abul Kashem.
Meanwhile, the Gazipur district administration has formed a three-member investigation committee, while the university has formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident.
