EC wants full power to ensure law enforcement

The Election Commission, EC, has said it wants full power to ensure the proper enforcement of law during election so that no one can obstruct the commission officials from performing their duties.

The commission made the recommendations to the Electoral System Reform Commission in a view exchange at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Wednesday, EC Secretary Shafiul Azim told the reporters after the meeting.

“The law is not enforced fully during election. We have made recommendations so that the Election Commission, election commissioners and election officers are not obstructed by any authority or anyone else cannot intervene, and the law given by the constitution is enforced properly,” he said.

“We also recommended authorising the EC to try anyone subsequently for his/her wrongdoings during election,” the EC secretary added.
