United Hospital chairman, 3 others face arrest warrants

A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against United Hospital Chairman Hasan Mahmud Raja and three others over allegations of forgery and breach of trust in a business transaction.

The other accused are FCA Mostaq Ahmed, Sabbir Ahmed, and Company Secretary Mostafizur Rahman.

The arrest order was passed on Sunday, November 17, by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubul Haque Palash after reviewing the probe report submitted by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on the same day.

The court has set January 14 as the deadline for a report on the execution of the warrant, confirmed bench clerk Parvej Ahmed on Tuesday, November 19.

According to the case statement, Hasan Mahmud Raja and the other accused allegedly forced Faridur Rahman, Managing Director of United Hospital for 15 years, to resign in May 2020 during the Covid-19 outbreak.

They then allegedly took control of Faridur’s 1,20,165 shares in the hospital without compensating him for their value, which totaled Tk 1,21,65,000. The accused also allegedly embezzled approximately Tk 1 crore in dividends from those shares.

In January 2024, the accused reportedly removed Faridur from his position as a director without notifying him.

Faridur filed the case against Raja and the three others on August 28, accusing them of fraud and embezzlement.
