14 Titumir College students at Education Ministry for meeting
Fourteen students from Government Titumir College observes sit-in programe at the Secretariat on Monday.

A delegation of 14 students from Government Titumir College have gone to the Ministry of Education for a meeting over the demand to transform the college into a university.

Md Jabed Iqbal, an organiser of the movement demanding the transformation, confirmed the matter on Tuesday afternoon.

“Our delegation went to the Ministry of Education to discuss with Information Adviser Nahid Islam and Education Adviser’s special assistant Dr M Aminul Islam. We will announce next programmes after the discussion,” he said.

The delegation members are Mahmud Hasan Muktar, Mosharraf Rabby, Neyek Nur Mohammad, Abdul Hamid, Nuruddin Jisan, Matiur Rahman Joy, Jahangir Sunny, Mehedy Hasan Mal, Aminul Islam, Mohammad Bellal, Al Noman Nirob, Habibullah Rony, Md Toaha, and Kawsar.

Students of Government Titumir College, which is affiliated with Dhaka University, took to the streets several times in last two months, seeking the formation of a commission to upgrade it to a university.

On Monday (November 19), they blocked road and railway in Mohakhali for five hours at the same demand, causing severe traffic congestion in the capital and immense sufferings to people.

From the blockade programme, they announced will not back to college if Education Ministry’s officials concerned give specific assurance about their demand.
