Asif expects Pakistan to acknowledge 'historical truths'
Adviser to the ministries of LGRD, and youth and sports, Asif Mahmud, emphasised on Monday the importance of Pakistan acknowledging the truth of historical events as a prerequisite for fostering socio-economic relations with Bangladesh.
He conveyed this stance during a meeting with Syed Ahmed Maruf, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh, held at his office.
During the discussion, both sides addressed various issues of shared interest, including education, cultural exchange, trade cooperation, launching direct flights, and fostering stronger people-to-people connections.
Welcoming the high commissioner, Asif Mahmud underlined the necessity of reviving trade and economic ties between the two nations. "Strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation on multilateral platforms is essential for our mutual growth," he said.
The high commissioner echoed these sentiments, emphasising Pakistan’s commitment to building better relations with Bangladesh. “We are ready to move forward and work in the right direction. Strengthening trade, commerce, and people-to-people contacts will be a priority for our government,” he said.
Both parties highlighted the significance of regional organisations like SAARC and discussed its potential to bolster cooperation between the nations in a broader South Asian context.
