Dhaka’s rail link with rest of country snapped for student unrest
Rail communication between Dhaka and the rest of the country was disrupted on Monday morning as students demanding the government convert Titumir College into a university blocked railway tracks in Mohakhali.
The blockade began around 11:00am, halting both rail and road traffic in the area. Dhaka Railway Station Master Md Anwar Hossain confirmed the disruption, saying, "Rail communication with Dhaka is closed due to the blockade in Mohakhali. Train movement will remain suspended until the tracks are cleared."
Protests by Titumir College students have intensified in recent weeks, with repeated demonstrations to push their demand for establishing an independent university. Monday's blockade is the latest in a series of actions causing significant disruptions to transportation in the capital.
Authorities are working to resolve the situation and restore train services.
