Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the interim government, announced that no one will be sent to Hajj at government expense this year.

“A new Hajj package has been introduced, reducing the cost by over one lakh taka,” Yunus stated during his address to the nation on Sunday (November 17), marking the first 100 days of his administration.

The holy Hajj is expected to take place on June 5, 2024, subject to the moon sighting.

This year, 1,27,198 Bangladeshi pilgrims will have the opportunity to perform Hajj, with 10,000 traveling under government management and the remainder through private arrangements.

The decision to eliminate government-funded Hajj expenses aligns with the interim administration's focus on ensuring transparency and efficient use of public funds. This marks a significant step toward equitable resource allocation while easing financial burdens for pilgrims.
