Indian media spreading falsehood about Bangladesh: Home Adviser
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury accused Indian media of spreading false information about Bangladesh, stating that continuous misinformation has led people to doubt even truthful reports.
He made these remarks during a divisional law and order press conference held at the Barishal District Police Lines drill shed on Thursday, November 14.
“If there is genuine corruption here, report it. But spreading false news disrupts entire systems,” said Chowdhury, urging Indian media to promote accurate reporting.
He stressed that Bangladeshis are now aware of these misleading tactics and tend to view Indian media reports with skepticism.
Addressing law enforcement issues, he acknowledged that public trust in the police had been strained but was gradually improving.
“We’ve made significant progress, though change takes time,” he added.
He also addressed Bangladesh’s drug problem, emphasising a collective approach to tackling it.
“Earlier, we focused on catching drug smugglers. Now, we’re targeting main operators through raids on their hideouts,” said Chowdhury.
The meeting, chaired by Barisal Range DIG Manjur Morshed Alam, included several high-ranking officials: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman, Barishal Divisional Commissioner Md Raihan Kawsar, and other key dignitaries.
