Labour Counselor withdrawn after harassment of Nazrul in Geneva
Mohammad Kamrul Islam, the First Secretary (Labour) at the Labour Welfare Wing of Bangladesh's Permanent Mission in Geneva, has been withdrawn following an incident involving the harassment of Law, Justice, and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul at Geneva Airport.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment confirmed that Kamrul Islam has been administratively withdrawn from his post and instructed to report to the Ministry promptly as per regulations.
According to sources, Asif Nazrul was returning to Bangladesh last Thursday after attending a meeting with the International Labour Organization (ILO) Governing Body and its senior officials. Upon arriving at Geneva Airport, he was surrounded and harassed by a group of people after exiting his vehicle. At the scene were Kamrul Islam, the Bangladesh Mission’s Labour Counselor, and Mizan, a local staff member of the mission.
Kamrul Islam, a BCS 29th batch officer, has been serving at the Bangladesh Mission in Geneva since 2021. Prior to that, he served as the private secretary to the Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare.
