Md Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, has said that Nahid, Asif, and others took to the streets ready to sacrifice their lives. Nothing, including the brutal torture by DGFI and DB, could sway them from their cause. Three months ago, Hasnat and others declared, "We are ready to be killed."

Sarjis, who was one of the key coordinators during the anti-discrimination student movement that led to the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, made the statement in a Facebook post at 10:25 am on Wednesday.

He further wrote, "There is no point in trying to scare Mahin Sarkar, Abu Baker Mojumdar, Rifat Rashid, Hannan Masud, and others. The fear of Sheikh Hasina's entire regime could not divert them from their goal."

Sarjis continued, "I understand that the slogan of Jagannath University was aimed at the corrupt system that existed before. There may be misunderstandings between comrades, but that’s not an issue. We believe the fight for justice on the streets will only strengthen our unity again. Whenever a crisis occurred, these comrades traveled many kilometers to be there."

He added, "However, any attempts to discredit them by infiltrating as agents will never succeed. This bond was not formed overnight. It was forged through sweating, shedding blood, and sacrificing our lives together on the streets. Be cautious!"

Earlier, on November 11, students of Jagannath University staged a sit-in at the Secretariat gate, demanding five points. During the protest, adviser Nahid Islam came down to speak with the students. The students surrounded him, chanting various slogans. This led to criticism on social media. Since then, many-including coordinators and general students-have been posting about Nahid Islam's brave role in the July Revolution.
