Paddy threshing noise drowns train whistle, four killed in Lalmonirhat
Four people were killed on Monday evening when the Karatoya Express struck them at Alauddin Nagar railway station in Patgram, Lalmonirhat.
The victims were identified as Azizar Rahman, 60, son of the late Abdul Bit of Islam Nagar village; Abdul Wahab, 45, son of Sadar Uddin from Mominpur village; Maqbul Hossain, 50, son of Safar Uddin; and Mubarak Hossain, 55, son of Mohammad Ali, also from Islam Nagar village.
Locals reported that the four individuals, believed to be daily laborers, were sitting on the railway line when the Burimari-bound Karatoya Express approached. Due to the loud noise of paddy threshing machines nearby, they were unable to hear the train’s whistle and were killed on the spot.
Mominur Rahman, a member of Islam Nagar Ward No. 1, confirmed the details, stating, “The workers were seated close to the railway line, and the noise from threshing prevented them from hearing the approaching train.”
Mamun Hasan, in charge of Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station, said that police have been dispatched to recover the bodies and investigate the incident.
