Muntaha found dead 7 days after going missing
The body of Muntaha Akter Jerin, a child who had been missing for seven days, was recovered from a drain in Kanaighat upazila, Sylhet. Police found her lifeless body in a nearby drain around 3:00 am on Sunday (November 9). A rope was reportedly found wrapped around her neck.
In connection with the incident, police have detained three people, including Muntaha's home tutor. Abdul Awal, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanaighat Police Station, confirmed the news.
Muntaha was the daughter of Shamim Ahmed, a resident of the Birdal Vararifoud village in the upazila.
Her father claimed that she was abducted in a premeditated manner. Following her disappearance, he had filed a general diary (GD) at Kanaighat Police Station.
On the morning of November 3, Muntaha had returned home with her father after attending a local religious gathering (waz mahfil). Later, she went to play with other children in the neighborhood. When she did not return home by afternoon, her family began searching for her, but she was not found.
