Land allotment to Bannya’s Surer Dhara scrapped

The interim government has cancelled the allotment of a piece of khas land to Rabindra Sangeet singer Rezwana Choudhury Bannya where she established a music school named Surer Dhara.

The Ministry of Land sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka district on Thursday, scrapping the allotment of the land at Lalmatia in the capital.

In the letter, the DC has been asked to submit a report to the ministry after taking proper measures in this regard.

According to media reports, parts of a canal was allotted to Bannya for around 99 years to establish a music school there showing it as a ‘nal’ land during the fallen Awami League-led government.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s younger sister Sheikh Rehana, former State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak and former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation, DNCC, Md Atiqul Islam, among others, inaugurated the school.
