Cyber Security Act to be repealed within a week: Nahid
Md Nahid Islam, the Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, announced on Monday that the Cyber Security Act will be repealed within the next week.
He said, "The Cyber Security Act will be repealed within a week, and all cases filed under it will also be withdrawn. Not only this law, but all laws that create barriers to freedom of expression are being reviewed. Reforms will be made in consultation with stakeholders."
Norwegian Ambassador Haakon Arald Gulbrandsen visited the adviser at his office in the Secretariat in the capital. During the meeting, the ambassador inquired about the Cyber Security Act, to which Nahid Islam responded with these remarks.
Nahid further added, "We have gained a new Bangladesh through the mass uprising of students and the people. The fascist government committed numerous irregularities and corruption over the past 16 years. The interim government has begun the process of rebuilding the country to help the people and the nation recover from the damage."
Seeking advice and cooperation from Norway in rebuilding the country, the adviser stated, "The government aims to strengthen relations with Norway as a development partner and seeks investment in the growth of information technology and the development of the media."
Ambassador Haakon Arald Gulbrandsen expressed Norway’s readiness to support the interim government in rebuilding a new Bangladesh.
The meeting concluded with discussions on mutual interests. Among those present were Dr. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications; Shish Haider Chowdhury, Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division; and Marianne Rabe Knaevelsrud, Deputy Head of Mission of Norway, among others.
