Yunus urges youth to dream big for positive change
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus encouraged young people on Sunday to dream and aspire to bring positive change to the country.
"Dreaming is the start of change. If you dare to dream, you can make it happen," he said while addressing participants of the NDC and AFWC courses at his office in Tejgaon.
He urged the youth to ask themselves, "What can I do for the world?" and assured them that once they set a goal, they have the power to achieve it.
"The current generation is the most powerful in history—not just because of intelligence, but because they have unprecedented technology at their fingertips," Yunus said.
Referencing the student-led movements, Yunus highlighted the power of technology in creating a quick, effective communication network, noting, "Technology is like Aladdin’s lamp."
He emphasised that the young people advocating for a new Bangladesh are driven by a vision for a better future rather than political ambitions.
Regarding global peace, Yunus, a 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate, observed the irony of nations fighting in the name of peace. "It’s amusing that every government has a ‘defence ministry,’ essentially a war ministry, but not a peace ministry. If peace is the goal, shouldn’t we have peace ministries too?" he questioned.
Yunus proposed establishing peace ministries and peace attachés alongside defense roles, urging a shift from a "self-destructive civilisation" that he said is actively harming the planet.
"We’ve built a civilisation that’s destroying itself daily," he remarked, adding that environmental degradation is one example of this self-destructive trend.
He concluded by wishing the NDC and AFWC course members success in their future endeavours.
