Electoral Reform: Commission finds no need for talks with political parties
Badiul Alam Majumdar, head of the Electoral System Reform Commission, has said that there is no need for direct discussions with political parties on electoral reform.
He, however, emphasised that the commission will gather clear feedback from them.
Badiul these comments following a meeting of the commission held at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon on Thursday (October 31).
Commission members Tofail Ahmed, Jasmine Tully, Dr Md Abdul Alim, Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, Mir Nadia Nivin, Mohammad Sadek Ferdous, student representative Sadik Al Arman, EC system manager Muhammad Ashraf Hossain, and EC deputy secretary Md Atiyar Rahman attended the meeting.
Badiul shared updates on the commission’s work, noting, “Our work is progressing well. We’ve held 12 official meetings and are currently reviewing various election laws. Feedback from stakeholders will be sought for this reform.”
When asked if views would be exchanged with political parties, he responded, “I don’t believe any formal exchange is necessary. We will still take clear views from them.”
He added, “Our job is not to create flawless elections, but rather to recommend improvements to the election system. We are set to submit our recommendations by December 31.”
