Burning bodies in Ashulia: Ex-Addl SP arrested, taken to ICT
Former Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Shahidul Islam was arrested and taken to the International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday in connection with the burning of bodies after the killing of students and others in Ashulia, Dhaka, on August 5.
He was brought to the tribunal under police escort after 10:00 am.
He will be presented before a three-judge tribunal led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, where the prosecution will request his detention under the tribunal's authority and seek to send him to jail.
Prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman told Jago News that Shahidul Islam has been arrested in connection with the July genocide case.
It is reported that he was arrested outside Dhaka on Wednesday night (October 30) and taken to Shahbagh Police Station. The Shahbagh police then brought him to the tribunal in the morning.
Earlier, on October 27, the tribunal issued arrest warrants against 17 former police officials, including former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman Habib, in connection with the allegations of genocide that occurred in July and August. This order was given by the three-judge tribunal led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar.
On October 30, after presenting former Deputy Commissioner of Mirpur Md Jashim Uddin Mollah, the tribunal ordered him to be sent to jail. This marked the first time someone has been arrested and presented before the tribunal in connection with the July-August genocide allegations.
