N’ganj gas leak fire: Father also dies after 3 children

A man who sustained burn injuries, along with his wife and four children, in a fire caused by a gas pipeline leak at a house in the Dahargaon area of Rupganj, Narayanganj, on Friday night, died early Thursday, bringing the death toll in the incident to four.

Md Babul Mia, 40, of Sujapur village in Nabiganj upazila, Habiganj, passed away around 5:00 am while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. He suffered 66 percent burn injuries, confirmed Tariqul Islam, a resident doctor at the institute.

His wife, Sheli, also suffered 30 percent burns, and their daughter, Munni, sustained 20 percent burns. They are receiving treatment at the institute and are in critical condition, the doctor said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Babul’s two daughters and a son died while undergoing treatment at the institute.
