N’ganj gas leak fire: Death toll rises to 3 as another dies

A child who suffered burn injuries in a fire caused by a gas pipeline leak at a house in the Dahargaon area of Rupganj, Narayanganj, on Friday night, died on Tuesday night, bringing the death toll from the incident to three.

The deceased, Taslima, 9, daughter of Babul, died while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS).

Tariqul Islam, a resident doctor at SHNIBPS, said that victims Jewel and Md Ismail died in the ICU early Tuesday. Their sister Taslima, who had sustained 63 percent burn injuries, also passed away around 8:00 am that day.

The doctor added that their father suffered 66 percent burn injuries, their mother 30 percent, and another sister, Munni, 20 percent. All are in critical condition.

Md Faruk, inspector and in-charge of the police camp of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the bodies have been kept at the SHNIBPS and the concerned police station has been informed.
