Ex-home secy sent to jail in Juba Dal leader murder case

A Dhaka court has denied bail to former Home Secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin, sending him to jail in connection with the murder case of Juba Dal leader Shamim, filed with the Paltan Model Police Station in the capital.

Police on Monday presented him in Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court after a three-day remand. The investigating officer requested his detention until the investigation is complete. Meanwhile, his lawyer submitted a bail plea, which was opposed by the prosecution. Following the hearing from both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam denied bail and ordered his detention in jail.

Earlier, on Thursday (October 24), Mostafa Kamal was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) from Chittagong. The following day, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Najmin Akter approved a three-day remand for him in this case.

On October 28, 2023, the BNP called for a mass rally as part of its central programme, which was countered by an Awami League rally on the same day. During BNP’s rally in Dhaka, an attack occurred, resulting in the death of Jubo Dal leader Shamim. In connection with the incident, a case was filed at Paltan Police Station on September 24, 2024.
