Govt firm on ban against extremist groups: CA’s press wing

The Bangladesh government has no plans to lift the ban on extremist organizations that were previously banned, including Hizb ut-Tahrir and Ansarullah Bangla Team, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.

On Sunday, October 27, the Press Wing issued a statement on social media refuting claims that these bans might be removed.

The Press Wing iterated that the interim government, led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy towards extremist organisations in Bangladesh.

This clarification comes in response to a social media post by exiled writer Taslima Nasreen, who alleged that the interim government had lifted the ban on these groups.

The statement clarified that “Our attention has been drawn to a recent Tweet by writer Taslima Nasreen. She falsely claimed early this week that the interim government had lifted the ban on the two groups. Bangladesh does not have any plan to lift the ban on the two groups or other extremist groups, which were outlawed in recent decades.”
