Train service disrupted with Khulna as 8 oil tankers derail
Eight oil tankers of a freight train heading to Khulna derailed near Ansarbari Station in Jibannagar upazila, Chuadanga, in the early hours of Wednesday, disrupting rail communications between Khulna and the rest of the country.
The incident occurred around 3:00 am at the down signal point.
Due to the derailment of the oil tankers, passenger trains from Dhaka to Khulna and from Khulna to Goalanda have been stranded at Chuadanga Station and Mobarakganj Station.
Shanto Kumar Biswas, the point man at Chuadanga Station, confirmed the matter.
He stated that Khulna's rail communication with the rest of the country has been suspended since midnight. Rescue operations began at dawn, and a passenger train is currently stuck at Chuadanga Station. More details will be available after the rescue efforts are completed.
Meanwhile, more than six hours have passed without the resumption of train services, causing significant inconvenience for travelers on this route. Passengers on stranded trains heading to various destinations are also facing difficulties.
A rescue train from Ishwardi in Pabna has been working since dawn to recover the derailed tankers, and the operation is still ongoing.
Minto Roy, the station master at Uthali Railway Station, stated that a train carrying 32 empty tankers was heading to Khulna from Dhaka when it derailed around 3:00 am near point 11 of the railway line, close to Ansarbari Station.
Chuadanga Station Master Mizanur Rahman mentioned that efforts are underway to recover the derailed tankers. Train services may resume once the recovery is complete.
