Protesters leave Bangabhaban area after coordinators’ assurances
Coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Hasnat Abdullah and Md Sarjis Alam, called for the protesters in front of Bangabhaban to remain calm on Tuesday night, expressing hope that President Mohammed Shahabuddin would resign by Thursday. They added, "Otherwise, we will resume our movement." Following their statement, protesters began to leave the Bangabhaban area, with some departing around 1:45 am on Wednesday.
Hasnat and Sarjis, and several other coordinators addressed the protesters in front of Bangabhaban at around 11:45 pm on Tuesday.
Earlier in the afternoon, agitated protesters had gathered in front of the President's official residence, demanding his resignation. The protests were triggered by a recent statement from President regarding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation, sparking widespread reactions. In response, leaders and activists from several organizations began demonstrating in front of Bangabhaban from the afternoon.
Among the protesters were members of Inquilab Mancha, Raktim July '24, 36 July Parishad, Ziaur Rahman Samaj Kalyan Parishad, and the Anti-Fascism Student-People's Platform. Protesters were heard chanting slogans against the President, and several individuals were injured during clashes with the police.
Meanwhile, in the afternoon, a meeting took place between Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, law adviser Asif Nazrul, information adviser Nahid Islam, and Inspector General of Police Md Moinul Islam. The meeting was also attended by RAB DG AKM Shahidur Rahman and DMP Commissioner Md Mainul Hasan.
