Gunmen storm Rohingya camp, kill 3 of a family
Gunmen shot and killed three members of the same family after storming into shanty in a Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar early Monday morning.
The attack occurred around 5:00am at Ukhia's Rohingya Camp 20X, according to Arif Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhia Police Station.
The victims were identified as Ahmed Hossain, 65, his son Syedul Amin, 28, and daughter Asma Begum, 15, residents of Camp-17, Block-104.
Quoting locals, OC Arif said that a group of 15-20 unidentified assailants entered Camp-20 X, Block S/4, near Lal Pahar in Ukhia, and opened fire on the family.
Ahmed Hossain and Syedul Amin were killed on the spot, suffering fatal gunshot wounds to the head, chest, and neck.
Asma Begum, critically injured, was rushed to a camp hospital but succumbed to her injuries while being transferred to Cox's Bazar General Hospital.
The victims had reportedly relocated from Camp-17 to Camp-20, where they were living temporarily in makeshift shelters.
Camp sources suggest that the attack may have been linked to the terrorist activities of the deceased Syedul Amin, who was allegedly involved with the Rohingya militant group ARSA. It is believed that the gunmen targeted him for this reason, killing him along with his parents.
Following the attack, the assailants fled through Lal Pahar’s Block S/4 and B/7.
The OC confirmed that the bodies were recovered with the help of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) and sent to Cox's Bazar General Hospital for autopsy. Legal action is pending.
