The employees of different Palli Bidyut Samity in Netrakona are observing a 'complete shutdown' on Thursday (October 17), causing suffering to at least 6,35,127 users in the district.
The shutdown began around 9:00am by disconnecting electricity in 10 upazilas and it was going on while filing of the report at about 3:00pm.
The Palli Bidyut Samity officials and workers in the district have been in a movement for various demands, including making the contractual and irregular employees permanent.
They claimed that a case has been filed against 10 officials and of them, four were detained, including Barhatta Palli Bidyut Samity's assistant general manager, AGM, this morning.
After the news of the detention, the electricity connection was cut off.
Masum Ahmed, general manager of Netrakona Palli Bidyut Samity, said a shutdown is underway as various demands of the samity's officials and workers have not been met.
"Barhatta office's AGM was held this morning. The deputy commissioner called us in this regard and a decision will be taken after the meeting with her," he added.
However, Barhatta police station's officer-in-charge, Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, denied that police have detained Barhatta Palli Bidyut Samity's AGM, saying the army took him to the police station, and after a while, they released him.
Deputy Commissioner Banani Bishwas said she is holding a meeting with the Palli Bidyut officials and hopes they can reach a positive decision.
