Five people were killed and 23 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses in Faridpur early Tuesday. 

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in the Mallickpur area of Kotwali thana around 4:00 am. 

Confirming the incident, Salah Uddin Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge of the Karimpur Highway police station, stated that a Jhenaidah-bound bus of Green Paribahan collided head-on with a Barishal-bound bus of Khagrachhari Paribahan, resulting in five deaths and 23 injuries.
