A total of 1,695 cases have been filed against those involved in instigating and directing the attacks in an effort to suppress the anti-discrimination student movement across the country. This month alone, 3,195 individuals have been arrested.
Inamul Haque Sagar, Assistant Inspector General (Media and Public Relations) of the police headquarters, confirmed the matter on Sunday night. He stated that the Bangladesh Police is committed to fulfilling the public aspirations created by the student and people's movement.
The police official mentioned that, in an effort to quell the anti-discrimination movement, there have been attacks aimed at brutally killing students and members of the general public, leading to 1,695 cases against those involved in the attacks, instigators, and those giving directives. Based on specific evidence of involvement in these heinous acts, 3,195 individuals, including 74 high-profile leaders from the then-ruling party, have been arrested in October, with actions being taken against them.
He further added that legal measures, including filing cases and making arrests, have been taken against those who had previously engaged in extortion, tender manipulation, and various criminal activities under the shelter of political parties.
He assured that police services will be harassment-free and people-friendly, ensuring that no one becomes a victim of unnecessary harassment.
