Eight people, including four children, tragically died when a car lost control and plunged into a roadside canal in Pirojpur. 

The accident occurred around 2:00am on Wednesday (October 9) in the Kadamtala market area of Sadar Upazila.

The victims, from two families, were identified as Motahar, 45, his wife Sabina, 36, daughter Mukta, 10, and son Shoaib, 2, from Sherpur’s Dighipara Raghunathpur. The other family members included Shaon, 32, his wife Amena, 25, and their children Shahadat, 10, and Abdullah, 3, from Hoglabunia, Nazirpur.

Fire Service Media Officer Talha Bin Jaseem confirmed the incident, stating that the fire service received the call at 2:18am and two units arrived at the place of occurrence by 2:30am to begin rescue operations. 

The families were reportedly returning to Nazirpur after visiting Kuakata. The bodies are currently being kept at Pirojpur General Hospital.
