Mobasser Monem new PSC chairman

Dr Mobasser Monem, a professor of public administration at Dhaka University, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC). 

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Wednesday (October 9), appointing him for a tenure of five years.

Mobasser Monem assumes the role of PSC Chairman under the authority of Article 138(1) of the Constitution. 

According to Article 139(1), he will serve in this capacity for five years from the date of assuming office or until reaching the age of 65, whichever comes first.

The appointment follows the resignation of 12 members of the commission, including its chairman Sohrab Hossain, on Tuesday (October 8).

Additionally, the notification announced the appointment of Md Sujayet Ullah, Dr Md Nazmul Amin Majumder, Dr Md Aminul Islam, and Dr Nurul Qadir as members of the PSC. 

They too will serve for a period of five years from their assumption of office or until reaching the age of 65.

Following the political upheaval on August 5, which saw widespread protests led by students leading to significant changes in the government, several officials were either retired, transferred to less critical positions, or resigned voluntarily. 

Despite these changes, two PSC members appointed during the previous Awami League administration have yet to tender their resignations.
