Govt uncertain about Hasina’s whereabouts
Confusion surrounds the current location of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled Bangladesh on August 5 in the face student-led uprising.
Neither the governments of India nor the United Arab Emirates have confirmed any information regarding her whereabouts, leaving the interim government unsure of her exact location.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain addressed the issue during a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (October 8).
There have been rumours circulating on social media that Sheikh Hasina has moved from India to the United Arab Emirates.
Asked whether the ministry had verified this information, Touhid said, "We have not been able to confirm her location. We've inquired both in Delhi and the Emirates, but no official confirmation has been provided. There are reports suggesting she may be in Ajman, but our efforts to re-confirm this have been unsuccessful."
When asked about speculation that the former Prime Minister was sent to India under pressure from the United States, Touhid responded, "I can't confirm that. You would have to ask the Americans."
