Durga Puja holiday extends by one day
The government has decided to extend the upcoming Durga Puja holiday by an additional day.
Mahfuz Alam, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, announced that a formal notification will be issued on Tuesday.
Mahfuz Alam after visiting Dhakeshwari National Temple on Tuesday told reporters, "The Puja holiday will be extended by one day. Thursday will also be a holiday for the festival, and the official notification will be issued today."
"Hindus have long been requesting an extension of the Durga Puja holiday. They celebrate the festival from Shashti to Dashami. This year, with Friday and Saturday falling just before Dashami, we decided to extend the holiday by one day, allowing them more time to fully enjoy the festivities," said Mahfuz.
According to the existing holiday calendar, Sunday, October 13, was already designated as a holiday for Durga Puja, with Friday and Saturday (October 11-12) being weekends.
With the inclusion of Thursday, government employees will now enjoy a total of four consecutive days off for Durga Puja.
