Home Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) on Sunday (October 6) said there is no security threat at the puja mandaps ahead of the Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu Community.

“This time, the Durga Puja would be celebrated in a well, peaceful and unprecedented manner,” he said while speaking to journalists after visiting the Ramna Kali Mandir in Dhaka.

The adviser said they have sent an eight-point directive to law enforcement agencies and field administration to pursue tight security measures across the country.

“Besides, police, RAB and Ansar have been deployed in large numbers alongside the armed forces (the Army, the Navy and the Air Force) across the country to maintain law and order and make the security foolproof at the puja mandaps ,” he said.

The adviser said volunteers would be deployed in the pavilions to guard those round the clock.

Asked about propaganda and rumour spread by a neighbouring country media over the Durga Puja, he said, “You know the neighbouring country is saying many things to this end. I request you to portray the true picture through media.”

The home adviser called upon the media to correct their mistakes and at the same time give extensive coverage of their good works.

Replying to measures taken against those involved in the attacks in Ramu and Nasirnagar of Brahmanbari, he said, “Those who were involved in the misdeeds, they must face the music. The present government has been working to establish justice. ”

Convenor of the Puja conducting committee, Sree Sree Ramna Kalimandir and Anandamoyee Ashram, Aparna Ray and Member Secretary Bishajit Bhadra, among others, were present.
