Lawyer seeks ACC probe into DCs’ graft

A High Court lawyer has submitted an application before the Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC, seeking probe into the alleged bribery surrounding deputy commissioner (DC) appointments.

Lawyer Nadim Mahmud submitted the application addressing the ACC chairman on Sunday (October 6).

Nadim said, “The ACC did not take any measures so far after the information of corruption surrounding DC appointments leaked out. That is why, I submitted an application before the ACC.”

“Besides, I requested to freeze the bank accounts of those who have been appointed as DC because, according to the leaked information, the bribery has been transacted at dollar and Taka,” he added.

Nadim also said he will file a writ petition with the High Court if the ACC does not take any steps in this regard.

A national daily recently published a report claiming to expose a massive scam over reshuffle in civil administration, implicating Mokhles Ur Rahman, senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, and two joint secretaries, Ziauddin Ahmed and Ali Azam.

It suggested that sensitive WhatsApp conversations between the senior secretary and one of the joint secretaries revealed details about DC appointments and possible financial transactions. These screenshots, reportedly circulating within key state circles, have stirred concern within the administration.

The report also speculated that the appointments were intended to embarrass the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.

Some have viewed the claims as part of a broader conspiracy against the Yunus-led administration.
