A total of 105 children lost their lives during the student-led uprising in July and August, according to Adviser Sharmin S Murshid.

Each of the families will be given Tk 50,000 as compensation, the Adviser to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Women and Children Affairs announced during a press conference on Sunday (October 6).

The compensation will be distributed on World Children's Day, Monday (October 7), with families of the deceased children—those up to 18 years of age—receiving both the monetary grant and a certificate. The ceremony will be held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

Additionally, Adviser Sharmin mentioned that Tk 82.7 lakh has been provided to students injured in the anti-discrimination movement through the Social Service Office and the Upazila Patient Welfare Association.

The ministry is also in the process of securing $5 million from the World Bank to fund rehabilitation and treatment for those injured in the uprising.

The Adviser further noted that the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs operates 12 daycare centers and is pushing for the establishment of daycare facilities in all government institutions by June 2026.

The government is also exploring the introduction of private sector daycares to create more employment opportunities and provide essential services.
