RAB vows to nab Obaidul, Nanak, Harun upon receiving tips
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and former Detective Branch (DB) Chief Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid will be arrested if specific information is received, according to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Lt Col Munim Ferdous, Director of RAB's Legal and Media Wing, made this statement during a press conference at RAB's Media Centre in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, on Sunday (October 6).
Lt Col Ferdous said that RAB has already arrested many prominent individuals, but so far, they have not apprehended figures like Obaidul Quader, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, or Harun Or Rashid.
When asked about their arrests, he said, "We are working on it. Arrests will be made once concrete information is available."
Regarding RAB's role in arresting those involved in the violence during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5, Lt Col Ferdous said that 1,700 people have been arrested, including 39 high-level figures from the previous government.
Additionally, 15 individuals involved in firing on students, which was captured on social media, have also been detained.
RAB has also recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition. "If we receive any further information, RAB will take appropriate action. We stand with the common people," said Ferdous.
When asked about accusations against more than 90 police officers and whether any RAB members were implicated, Ferdous clarified that no RAB members had been charged, nor had any gone on strike like in other forces.
He emphasised that RAB consists of personnel from eight different forces, with 44 percent of its 10,000 members coming from the police force.
However, he asserted that RAB had no issues and never used lethal force against students. "RAB supported the student movement and continues to work towards making the coup successful," he concluded.
