Nahid featured in TIME100 Next for global impact

Nahid Islam, the adviser on Information and Broadcasting to Bangladesh's interim government, has earned a spot on Time magazine's prestigious TIME100 Next list.

The list, published on October 2, highlights 100 influential individuals globally for their significant contributions across various sectors.

"At just 26, Nahid Islam played a key role in toppling one of the most powerful figures in the world. A sociology graduate, Islam became a leading face of a student movement that ignited nationwide protests against Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," Time magazine wrote in its profile of Nahid Islam.

Time also noted that Islam's biggest challenge may lie ahead. As one of two Gen Z ministers in the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, Islam faces the daunting task of helping to rebuild a democratic system weakened by 15 years of authoritarian rule.

One of the youngest members ever sworn in as an adviser to an interim government in Bangladesh, Nahid Islam is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sociology at Dhaka University.

The TIME100 Next list celebrates rising global leaders who are making a substantial difference. This year’s honourees reflect a diversity of leadership, with over half being women and a majority representing leaders of colour.
