Anwar Ibrahim to arrive in Dhaka Friday
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is set to arrive in Dhaka on Friday, October 4, marking the first high-level visit by a foreign head of government since the interim administration led by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus took power following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, the Foreign Affairs Adviser confirmed that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will be accompanied by a 58-member delegation, which will include cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, members of parliament, senior officials, and high-ranking representatives.
During his one-day stay in Dhaka, the Malaysian Prime Minister will hold a private meeting with the Chief Adviser, Dr Yunus, and will also meet President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
The adviser noted that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was the first head of government to congratulate the interim government, and that the visit was quickly arranged due to his keen interest in meeting Dr. Yunus.
The discussions between the two leaders are expected to cover a wide range of topics, including economic cooperation, political relations, trade and investment, labor migration, education, technology, infrastructure development, and defense cooperation.
Bangladesh will also seek Malaysia's support in addressing the ongoing Rohingya refugee crisis and in advancing its aspirations to become a 'sectoral dialogue partner' within the ASEAN framework.
The Foreign Affairs Adviser highlighted that, as Malaysia prepares to chair ASEAN in 2025, regional cooperation on key issues such as the Rohingya crisis will be a focal point of the talks.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's visit is expected to further strengthen the partnership between Bangladesh and Malaysia, boost cooperation across multiple sectors, and deepen diplomatic and economic ties.
He will be welcomed with full state honours, reflecting the close and long-standing relations between the two countries.
