Mahmudur Rahman, Acting Editor of Dainik Amar Desh, has been released on bail on Thursday.

He was released from Kashimpur Central Jail-2 on Thursday (October 3) around 3:30pm, reports Gazipur correspondent of Jago News.

Earlier on the day, a Dhaka court been granted Mahmudur Rahman bail in a case related to an alleged conspiracy to abduct and kill Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The bail order was issued on Thursday by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge As-Shams Jaglul Hossain.

Earlier, on September 29, Rahman was sent to jail by a different court in the same case. He had appeared before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka, where he surrendered at around 10:30 am and sought bail. However, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque rejected his plea and ordered his detention after a hearing.

The case, dating back to 2011, alleges that senior leaders of the BNP and its cultural wing, Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS), along with other political figures, conspired to kidnap and murder Sajeeb Wazed Joy in the United States. The accused were said to have met at various locations, including the JASAS office in Paltan, Dhaka, as well as in New York, the UK, and other places in Bangladesh.
