Teen killed in gunfight at Ukhia Rohingya camp
A teenaged boy man was killed, and five others were injured in a shootout between members of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO groups at the Ukhia Rohingya camp, Cox's Bazar, in a clash over territorial dominance.
The deceased, Abdur Rahman, 19, was the son of Mohammad Abdullah of Block E-2, of Camp 14, Hakimpara, Ukhia.
The injured include Nur Mohammad, 32, Mohammad Zobair,37, Noor Alam, Mohammad Shafayet and Nesar Khatun, 55, all residents of the Hakimpara and Jamtoli camps.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (October 2) evening in the area between camp 14 and camp 15.
According to Additional Deputy Inspector General (Addl DIG) Amir Zafar, commander of the 8th Armed Police Battalion, Myanmar-based groups ARSA and RSO exchanged 20-25 rounds of gunshots during the clash. Six Rohingyas were shot. When a team from the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) arrived at the scene, the terrorists fled.
One of the injured victims was pronounced dead after being taken to the MSF Hospital in Jamtoli. The incident is believed to be part of an ongoing power struggle for dominance within the camp.
Police are continuing operations to identify and apprehend those involved.
