RMG unrest disrupts traffic on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway
Garment workers in Gazipur took to the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on Tuesday, demanding unpaid wages, leading to severe traffic disruption.
The protest, lasting over two hours, left the busy highway at a standstill as law enforcement worked to control the situation.
The unrest began at the gate of APL Apparels in the Bhogra area, where workers, frustrated over three months of unpaid wages, gathered in the morning before moving their demonstration to the highway.
Despite repeated promises from factory management, the workers claimed their demands remained unmet, forcing them to escalate the protest.
Deputy Commissioner of Traffic for Gazipur Metropolitan Police, Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, confirmed the disruption, stating, "The workers' protest is obstructing traffic flow, but we are working to clear the road and restore normal movement."
