Protesters vow to continue movement until meeting with CA

The job seekers, who have been demanding the extension of the upper age limit for entering government jobs to 35 years, have announced to continue their movement until Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus meets them.

The organisers of the movement made the announcement in a press conference in front of the State Guest House Jamuna around 3:30pm on Monday.

They said the officials of the administration discussed with a four-member team of them around 2:00pm after gathering in front of Jamuna and proposed to sit with the personal secretary of a commissioner of the Public Service Commission, PSC.

“But we do not want to sit with any official or PSC. Rather we only want to meet with the chief adviser of the interim government and talk to him,” one of the organisers said.

“The Chief Adviser is a pro-student person. If we talk to him, he will accept our demand,” he hoped.

Earlier around 1:30pm, police fired tear gas shells and sound grenades at the protesters.

It has been reported that two protesters were injured by the tear gas and sound grenades fired by the police.

The demonstrators had declared that they would not leave until an official notification was issued raising the age limit for government job applications to 35. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Md Israil Howlader said, "There was already a prohibition on holding gatherings or meetings in front of the Chief Adviser’s residence. However, the protesters ignored police warnings and gathered in front of the residence. We are taking action, and we will not allow them to remain there."
