Police fire teargas shells on protesters outside Jamuna

A group of students demanding that the age limit for government job applications be raised to 35 gathered in front of the residence of Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government, on Monday. During the protest, police fired tear gas shells and sound grenades at the demonstrators.

The protesters assembled outside the State Guest House Jamuna around 1:30 pm, where police and army personnel surrounded them. The demonstrators declared that they would not leave until an official notification was issued raising the age limit for government job applications to 35.

It has been reported that two protesters were injured by the tear gas and sound grenades fired by the police.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Md Israil Howlader said, "There was already a prohibition on holding gatherings or meetings in front of the Chief Adviser’s residence. However, the protesters ignored police warnings and gathered in front of the residence. We are taking action, and we will not allow them to remain there."
