Explosion on crude oil tanker in Patenga
An explosion occurred on crude oil tanker, the Jyoti, on Monday morning at the Dolphin Jetty of the Eastern Refinery in Patenga, Chattogram.
The incident occurred around 11 AM while the vessel was unloading its cargo.
Following the explosion, the tanker caught fire, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.
The Coast Guard, Navy, and Eastern Refinery's firefighting teams are working to contain the blaze.
AKM Naeemullah, DGM (Inspection and Safety) at Eastern Refinery Limited, confirmed the incident to Jago News. He stated that all crew members were safely evacuated from the Jyoti, which is an older vessel owned by the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC).
The explosion caused a thick plume of black smoke to rise into the sky, creating panic among nearby residents.
The tanker primarily transports crude oil from larger vessels anchored outside the port to the Eastern Refinery.
