RUCSU elections likely in next 5 months: VC
Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) elections may be held within the next five months. However, before that, a final decision will be made regarding whether there will be student politics at the university.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Saleh Hasan Naqib made these remarks while speaking to journalists on Thursday.
He stated that the RUCSU election process will begin only after determining the future of student politics.
He mentioned, "We are trying to organize the RUCSU elections within the next five months. But first, we have to decide whether there will be student politics and how it will be conducted. Only then will we start organizing the RUCSU election."
Regarding the university's position on student politics, he stated that there are two options: first, to completely ban student politics; and second, to reform it by discarding previous corrupt practices and introducing a new framework.
Students have been demanding a ban on student politics on campus. They have expressed their opinions in favor of stopping student politics by conducting polls on social media. However, a significant portion of students have expressed support for reformist student politics.
