HC rules on declaring martyrs of Jul-Aug movement national hero

The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule seeking explanation why those who were killed in the July-August student-people movement should not be declared national heroes.

The bench of Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Molla and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque issued the rule after a primary hearing on a writ petition.

The rule also sought as to why the families of the victims should not be given monthly benefits like the ones of freedom fighters.

The home secretary, the law secretary, the public administration secretary, the liberation war affairs secretary, the health secretary and the inspector general of police have been asked to respond the rule.

On behalf of Mohammad Ali Nazir Shahin, a resident of Nasirabad Housing Society in Chattogram, lawyer Rayhan Alam filed the writ.
