No polybags in kitchen markets from Nov 1: Adviser
The ban on use of polythene and polypropylene bags will strictly be executed in kitchen markets starting from November 1, announced Environment and Forest Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan.
“We will enforce the ban on polythene and polypropylene bags in supermarkets from October 1, and in kitchen markets from November 1,” she said during a meeting held at the Mohammadpur Town Hall Dhaka North City Corporation Kitchen Market Merchant Association office on Tuesday.
The adviser also warned that strict action would be taken against places producing polythene.
Earlier, she inaugurated a clean-up programme at Mohammadpur Town Hall Market, emphasising the implementation of the ban on polythene bags and polyethylene or polypropylene products.
Although the use of polythene bags has been officially banned since 2002, efforts to fully enforce the regulation have been renewed with this announcement.
