Maulana Ruhul Amin has been removed from his position as Khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, as announced by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Sunday (September 22).

The decision comes after a clash broke out between worshippers inside the mosque when Ruhul Amin unexpectedly appeared to lead Friday prayers on September 20.

According to the Ministry’s statement, Ruhul Amin was formally removed following due process. The incident unfolded when the worshippers expressed their unwillingness to pray behind him, leading to a confrontation between two groups, resulting in damage to the mosque.

Ruhul Amin had been absent from his role since the fall of the Awami League government following the student uprising on August 5.

In his absence, Islamic Foundation officials had been conducting Friday prayers. His unexpected return on September 20 caused unrest, leading to clashes within the mosque.

The Ministry of Religion condemned the incident, describing the attack and vandalism at the National Mosque as "highly undesirable, reprehensible, and a heinous crime." The government has vowed to take strict legal action against those responsible after a thorough investigation.
