AF Hassan Ariff, adviser for local government, rural development, and cooperatives, has suggested that there was foreign conspiracies behind the recent violence in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, including Rangamati.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting with leaders of local political and ethnic groups, as well as security forces, at the Rangamati cantonment.

He said, "Everyone in the meeting expressed a desire for harmony, but I’m not sure where things are going wrong. The word 'conspiracy' was mentioned by all; there is an external conspiracy to disrupt our unity."

Hassan Ariff added that a strong investigative committee is being formed to identify those responsible. "They will be brought under control within the week," he said.
