Lynching at FH Hall: DU suspends 8 students, removes provost

The Dhaka University administration has removed the provost of Fazlul Haque Hall and suspended eight of its students for their involvement in the lynching of a mentally retarded youth. 

According to a press release from the university's public relations office on Saturday (August 21), the residential seats of the eight accused students have been revoked, and they have been suspended following the incident at Fazlul Haque Hall. 

The suspended students are – Jalal Miah, a student of physics, Mohammad Sumon, a student of Soil, Water and Environment, Mottakeen Sakin, a student of Institute of Nutrition and Food Sciences, Al Hossain Sajjad, as student of geography and environmental science, Ahsan Ullah, a student of mathematics, M Firoz Kabir, a student of botany, M Abdus Samad, a student of physics, and Wajibul Alam, a student of oceanography.

In addition to the disciplinary action, Professor Dr Shah Md Masum, the provost of the hall, has been replaced by Professor Md Ilyas Al-Mamun from the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, who has been appointed as the new provost.
